Ulema Urged to Help Promote Lofty Causes

(President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad)

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said late Saturday that the June 12 presidential election had “40 million winners.“
Addressing a group of clerics in Tehran, he called on them to play a crucial role in promoting the moral and lofty causes of the Islamic Revolution and defend the independence of the Islamic Republic, IRNA reported.
The presidential elections proved that the people still have affection for the revolution and the Islamic Republic system, he added.
The massive turnout of voters confronted the “unreal western democracy“ with several challenges, he noted. Referring to the 85 percent voter turnout in the 10th presidential elections, he said his government is duty bound to help improve the quality of life and offer more services.
Condemning interference of certain foreign powers in Iran’s domestic affairs, Ahmadinejad reiterated that the nation will not consider such governments as friends.
He urged western states, particularly the US and Britain to change their policy of interference in Iran’s domestic affairs.
President Barack Obama at the weekend publicly urged Tehran to stop what he called “violent and unjust actions“ toward its own people.
“We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people,“ Obama said in a statement Saturday, AFP reported.
“The Iranian government must understand that the world is watching. We mourn each and every innocent life that is lost,“ he said in reference to the ongoing street unrests in Tehran and some other cities.
